UIU Undergraduate Admission

A. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

BBA program is designed to produce graduates with state-of-the-art knowledge, skills, and understanding of the functioning of modern business enterprises. The purpose of the program is to acquaint students with the different business theories and their real-world applications from economic, social, cultural, technological, global, and managerial perspectives. The program is a very rigorous one and is expected to prepare and empower students in pursuing a successful career in business management.

Admission Requirements

Every applicant, without any exception, must fulfill the admission requirements as laid down by UIU. A higher secondary certificate or its equivalent in science, arts, commerce, or other fields of study is the basic educational requirement.  A minimum GPA of 2.5/2nd division/equivalent grade in SSC and HSC or equivalent public examinations. Students with GPA 2.00 in any examination either SSC or HSC, however, must have a minimum GPA of 6.00 totaling the GPA of both the examinations. Candidates who have passed at least 5 papers in GCE “O” Level and two papers of “A” Level (with Mathematics as one of the subjects) may also apply provided they have obtained minimum 2.5 points (weighted average) in both “O” & “A” level computed according to following scale: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 and E=1.

Applications will, however, be evaluated on the basis of both previous academic achievements and admission test scores. Admission test will consist of a written examination on language, mathematics and analytical skills. A student having a minimum score of 1000 (with a minimum of 400 in verbal) SAT may not require to take the BBA admission test (written) administered by the university.

Course Waiver/Transfer Policy

A student must have obtained at least a grade of B or equivalent in a similar course from any reputed university/institution for course waiver/transfer. A student may be allowed maximum course waiver up to 60 credit hours (20 courses) based on the recommendation of the course equivalent committee.

Degree Requirements

The BBA degree requirements are as follows:

(a) Completion of minimum 121 credit hours excluding internship/project for 3 credits

(b) Completion of the internship/project program with at least a ‘C’ grade

(c) Passing of all courses individually and maintaining a minimum CGPA of 2.00

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting & Information Systems is designed by the United International University (UIU) to offer an internationally recognized degree at undergraduate level that will help prepare potential accounting professionals, business executives, entrepreneurs and academics. The program is rigorous with an emphasis on practicalities and skills for immediate use, which offers students a comprehensive education in all major facets of business.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 A minimum GPA of 2.5/2nd division/equivalent grade in SSC and HSC or equivalent public examinations. Students with GPA 2.00 in any examination either SSC or HSC, however, must have a minimum GPA of 6.00 totaling the GPA of both the examinations. Candidates who have passed at least 5 papers in GCE “O” Level (with Mathematics as one of the subjects) and two papers of “A” Level may also apply provided they have obtained minimum 3.00 points (weighted average) in both “O” level “A” level computed according to following scale: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 and E=1.

A student may be allowed maximum course waiver up to 60 credit hours (20 courses) based on the recommendation of the course equivalence committee.

For BBA in AIS, students partly or fully qualified by professional accounting bodies such as ICMAB, ICAB, CIMA etc. that are members of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) may be allowed credit transfer up to 10 courses (30 credit hours) in addition to course waiver stated above subject to the approval of the Course Equivalence Committee (CEC) of SoBE.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The BBA in Accounting & Information Systems degree requirements are as follows:

(a)Completion of 121 credit hours

(b)Completion of the internship program (3 credit hours) with at least a ‘C’ grade; and

(c) Passing of all courses individually and maintaining a minimum CGPA of 2.00.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting & Information Systems program consists of 121 credit hours and an internship/project for 03 credit- hours. Students are required to complete at least 38 courses before enrolling for internship/project program. The university follows a flexible system of course offering. Students may choose the number of courses he/she wants to enroll with consultation of his/her academic adviser. In a given trimester, a student must enroll a minimum of three courses; however, he/she cannot enroll in more than five courses. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Economics program, designed by United International University, aims at providing the most contemporary and innovative curriculum in the subject based upon a compelling philosophy of teaching that allows students to cope with the changes in the world of economics. At the end of the program each student is expected to demonstrate their learning through a research project paper or internship report.

The main objectives of the BS in Economics program are: a)  to understand the general concepts within Economics; b) Apply qualitative and quantitative reasoning skill to analyse both theoretical and real-world problems; c) Critically evaluate real-world economic problem and the impact of public policy; Develop effective written and Oral communication skill; and e) Demonstrate command of research skill and techniques.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering primarily involves the study of a number of core courses, which every CSE graduate should know, and a significant number of courses from specialized areas. Core courses build the foundation and specialized courses prepare the students for the specific areas of Computer Science and Engineering. To understand the underpinning theory of the courses of Computer Science and Engineering, a number of courses on Mathematics and Basic Science have been felt mandatory to be included in the syllabus. Currently the EEE department offers B.Sc. degree in the following two areas:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE)

Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering involves primarily the study of a number of core courses as well as some courses from a number of specialized areas. Core courses build the foundation of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. UIU has set forth four areas of specialization, namely, Electronics, Communication, Computer and Power. Students should take at least three courses from a specializing area in order to make that area his/ her major concentration. Students should also take courses from areas other than their chosen major area of concentration to ensure that their knowledge is not confined to a particular major area of concentration. To understand the underpinning theory of the courses of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, a number of courses on Mathematics and basic science, e.g., Physics, Chemistry, etc., have been felt mandatory to include in the syllabus. In addition, social science, management, accounting, economics and communication skills development related courses have been incorporated to make the syllabus a balance one and reasonably complete.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Each student has to fulfill the following requirements for the completion of the B.Sc. in EEE:
(a) Completion of 142.0 credit hours
(b) Successful completion of the “Capstone Project” and either of “Internship” and “Industrial Training”

Bachelor of Science in Electronic  and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE)

Rapid development in the fields of electronics and communication over the last decade has made Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering an emerging field of specialization. Bachelor of Science in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering primarily involves the study of a number of core courses as well as significant number of courses from specialized areas which every electronic and telecommunication engineer should know. Although this program is a specialized one, still there is a scope of optional courses in the final year for the students to choose other subjects of further interest. Core courses build the foundation whereas specialized courses prepare the students for the specific areas of electronic and communication. To understand the underpinning theory of the courses of electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, a number of courses of Mathematics and basic science, e.g. Physics, Chemistry etc. have been felt mandatory to include in the syllabus. In addition social science, management, accounting, economics and communication-skills development related courses have been incorporated to make the syllabus balanced and reasonably complete one. The objective of the undergraduate program in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering is to develop skilled and competent graduates to meet the current and future needs at home and abroad. After the completion of the telecommunication, semiconductor processing, circuit design etc. and can also pursue higher studies to involve in the state-of-the-art research.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The requirements for the B.Sc. in ETE are:
(a) Completion of 143.5 credit hours
(b) Completion of the the project with at least a ‘C’ grade
(c) Passing of all courses individually and maintaining a minimum CGPA of 2.00

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum qualification for admission in ‘BSS (Hons.) in Environment and Development Studies’:

Bangladeshi Students

  1. A minimum GPA of 2.5/2nd division/equivalent grade in SSC and HSC or equivalent public examinations. Students with GPA 2.00 in any examination either SSC or HSC, however, must have a minimum GPA of 6.00 totaling the GPA of both the examinations. The students, who are sons/daughters of freedom fighters, will be eligible for getting admission if they have a minimum GPA of 5.00 totaling the GPA of SSC and HSC Examinations.
  2. O-level students must have completed a minimum of 7 subjects, and A-level students must have completed 2 subjects. In both examinations, students must have Average Grade Point of 4.00 (‘B’ Grade) in four subjects and 3.50 (‘C’ Grade) in 3 subjects.
  3. Acceptable score in UIU Admission Test.
  4. Admission Test is not required for GPA 5.00 holders in HSC/equivalent level of exams.

International Students 

  1. Have successfully completed their higher secondary education (12 years of schooling)
  2. At least 50% marks or an equivalent grade of their own education system.
  3. O-level students must have completed a minimum of 7 subjects, and A-level students must have completed 2 subjects. In both examinations, students must have Average Grade Point of 4.00 (‘B’ Grade) in four subjects and 3.50 (‘C’ Grade) in 3 subjects. If the applicant’s previous medium of instruction is not English, TOEFL/IELTS scores are required.

Credit Requirements 

For the achievement of BSS degree in Environment and Development Studies, a student has to complete 123 credits, with 31 courses of 3 credits each, 6 courses of 4 credits and thesis/research monograph of 6 credits. Students must complete 06 compulsory (general) courses, 03 compulsory foundational courses, 17 Core Courses, 11 Elective Courses. A student has to choose either Individual Research/Practicum or Internship.

UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 The minimum qualification for admission into an undergraduate program is:
  1. A minimum GPA of 2.5/2nd division/equivalent grade in SSC and HSC or equivalent public examinations. Students with GPA 2.00 in any examination either SSC or HSC, however, must have a minimum GPA of 6.00 totalling the GPA of both the examinations.
  2. O-level students must have completed a minimum of 5 subjects with Average Grade Point of 2.50 or above and A-level students a minimum of 2 subjects with Average Grade Point of 2.00 or above (scale A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1)
  3. For admission to BSEEE/CSE/Civil Engineering programs, students must have had Physics and Mathematics in HSC/A-Level or equivalent level.
  4. The students, who are sons/daughters of freedom fighters, will be eligible for getting admission if they have a minimum GPA of 5.00 totalling the GPA of SSC and HSC Examinations. Such students, however, have to submit the copy of authenticated Certificate as the proof of his/her father/mother’s identity as a freedom fighter.
  5. Acceptable score in UIU Admission Test.
  6. Admission Test is not required for GPA 5.00 holders in H.S.C/equivalent level of exams for getting admission to an undergraduate program.
  7. Credit-transferred students will be able to get admission to an undergraduate/graduate program of UIU without Admission Test.

Direct Admission Eligibility

  1. For getting admission to undergraduate programs, admission test is not required for GPA 5.00 holders in HSC/Equivalent exams.  Moreover, GPA 5.00 holders can avail 25% to  50% tuition fee waiver based on HSC results.
  2. An admittee with five (5) A’s in the O-level and 1 A’s & 1 B’s in A-level will receive 100% tuition fee waiver. Admittees into any of the SoSE programs, in addition to the policy mentioned above, must have taken Physics and Mathematics in the A-level program and score at least a ‘B’ in either Physics or Mathematics to be eligible for a 100% tuition fee waiver.
  3. An admittee with five (5) A’s in the O-level and two (2) B’s in the A-level will receive 50% tuition fee waiver. Admittees into any of the SoSE programs, in addition to the policy mentioned above, must have passed Physics and Mathematics in the A-level program.
  4. An admittee with four (4) A’s in the O-level will receive 25% tuition fee waiver. An admittee into any of the SoSE programs, in addition to the policy mentioned above, must have a passing grade in Physics and Mathematics in the A-  level program.
  5. Credit-transferred students will be able to get admission to an undergraduate/graduate program of UIU without Admission Test.

UIU Graduate Admission

A. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

During the last few decades, the global business environment changed more than ever before. Globalization, increasing competition, technological advancement, service orientation and multicultural workplace made the business environment more complex. As a result, there has been a major change in the nature of managerial skills required to take up the challenge of today’s business. The MBA program of UIU aims at developing the requisite skills of successful managers in the present business environment. It is an evening program. Classes start at 6.30 pm and end at 9.30 pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION

The candidates must fulfill the following requirements for admission in the MBA program.
1. Must have a Bachelor degree in any discipline from any recognized university.
2. Must attain the qualifying mark in the admission test to be conducted by the university.
3. Must attain a minimum score of 6.0 for the performance in the previous academic degree programs.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

(a) A student must earn credits for at least 20 courses (60 credit hours) for graduation. The residency
requirement is 30 credit hours.

(b) The student must secure a minimum CGPA of 2.

COURSE WAIVER AND CREDIT TRANSFER

A student must have obtained at least a grade of B or equivalent in a similar course from any reputed institution for getting a course waiver. Course waiver is allowed only for the ten foundation level courses. Maximum allowed credit hours for course waiver/credit transfer is 30. However, for MBA in Professional Accounting, students partly or fully qualified by professional accounting bodies (such as ICAB, ICMAB, CIMA, etc.) that are members of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) may be allowed waiver/credit transfer of the core courses, and concentration area course subject to approval of the Course Equivalence Committee (CEC) of SOBE. The waived/transferred credits for MBA in Professional Accounting must not exceed 60% of the total credits of the program.

A student can re-take a course if s/he achieved below- ‘A’ Grade in that course.

 CLASS ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT 

Each and every student is required to attend the class regularly. To be eligible for the final examination of a course, a student must have to attend 80% of the classes of the course.

COURSE DROP/ WITHDRAWAL

A student can withdraw himself/ herself from a course within one week after the beginning of the trimester with full refund. There is no refund for any withdrawal after this deadline. No withdrawal is allowed after eight weeks from the beginning of the trimester.

  1. A student must earn credits for at least 15 courses of 3 credit hours each (45 credit hours) for graduation. The minimum residency requirement is 30 credit hours.
  2. The student must secure a minimum CGPA of 2.0.

Master of Science(MS) in Economics at UIU is designed to equip students to pursue higher studies in Economics in any North American or equivalent universities.  A conscious emphasis is given in teaching applied economics courses to help our graduates meet the challenges of designing and evaluating policies. This blend is unique in Bangladesh and will help in grooming our graduates for policy level jobs.

MS in Economics is a 30 credit program with option for a research monograph or an MS Thesis at the end.  Ideally it should take one year to complete the course requirements plus one semester to complete the thesis/research monograph.

COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM

There are three components of the program :

  1. Core Course (4 x 3 = 12 credits)
  2. Elective Economics Courses (4 x 3 = 12 credits)
  3. Thesis(1x 6= 6  credits)/ Research Paper (1 x 3= 3 credits)*

*Students opting for Research Paper shall have to do 5 elective economics courses.

The Master in International Human Resource Management (MIHRM) program has been designed to comprehend the existing perspective of human resource professionals of Bangladesh and beyond to help and guide the local and global workforce. This program combines a mix of theory and practice and prepares students to work as HR professionals or people management within the global organizations. By studying this program, students will receive the grounding in the field of international HRM with a specific focus on its’ development into a strategic function within global organizations. As well as developing a comparative awareness of the various elements of HR practices.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The minimum qualification for admission to this program will be as follows:

  1. A bachelor degree from a recognized university with a minimum GPA of 2.50 or above in a scale of 4.00, or at least second divisions/classes in all previous public exams;
  2. Applicant must pass the university admission test.
  • Applicant must face one-to-one interview for final selection. Practicing HR professionals will be given preference.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

A candidate will have to complete 42 credit hours including 3 credit hours project/dissertation to get MIHRM degree. It is required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.00 out of 4 throughout the program in order to fulfill the minimum degree requirement. A student must complete at least 50 percent of the total courses in order to be eligible for certificate awarding from this university defined as residency requirement.

GRADING POLICY

UIU Grading Policy will be applicable for this MIHRM program.

COURSE WAIVER & CREDIT TRANSFER

A student may avail waiver/credit transfer for a maximum of 6 (six) courses from foundation and optional courses. Credit transfer in cases of transferred students from recognized universities locally and globally may be allowed.

BBA/MBA graduates, PGDHRM certificate holders and equivalent degree holders from any university/institution recognized by Government may get waiver/credit transfer from maximum 6 (six) courses from foundation and optional courses in MIHRM program. However, a candidate must secure minimum “B” grade or CGPA 3.00 in the scale of 4.00 to get waiver/credit transfer in MIHRM program.

B. SCHOOL OF SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

United International University (UIU) has been running its M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering program very successfully since its inception and has attracted not only fresh undergraduates but also a handful number of ICT professionals from the industry. Due to the rapidly changing nature of the subject, it has become urgent to make a number of changes in the existing syllabus in order to meet the local and global market demand. Especially a number of courses related to Communication Engineering and Intelligent Computing have been added to the existing syllabus. In addition, courses have been distributed into six major areas and UIU is the very first Private University in Bangladesh to do such major-based M.Sc programs. After incorporating all the necessary changes, the modified syllabus is hereby submitted to the University Grants Commission for kind approval.

 A. Admission Requirements:

Individuals who hold a Bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline from a recognized university having CGPA not less than 2.0 will be considered for admission into the Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering program. Students who have weak undergraduate grades or have not come from CS/CSI/CSE/EEE/Applied Physics background will be required to take a number of prerequisite courses (list enclosed) as decided by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Applicants without Science group in HSC (Higher Secondary School) or equivalent level will not be considered for MSCSE UIU admission.   The applicant’s undergraduate grade point average (GPA), GRE score and work experience will be considered in the admission process. A personal interview will be encouraged and may be required. Upon acceptance, students will receive a copy of their planned academic program. Students are encouraged to meet periodically with the Program Director to discuss academic progress, career placement and special needs.

B. Degree Requirements

A total of minimum 36 credit hours of graduate course work with a minimum GPA of 2.0 are required to earn the M.Sc. in CSE degree. Students may belong to thesis, project or course only group. Thesis group students should take 18 credit hours course work and 18 credit hours thesis. Project group students should take 30 credit hours course work and 6 credit hours project. Course only group students should take 36 credit hours course work.  At least 39 contact hours constitute a 3 credit hour course. To get MSCSE degree (Thesis, Project, Course) with Major (Software Engineering, Intelligent Computing, Network and Communication Engineering, Data Science, Cyber Security, Business Intelligence), a student must fulfill the requirements of that major. If any student does not follow the major track requirements, he/she will get MSCSE degree without major. In addition to class work, students have to engage themselves intensively in course-based laboratory works. From the MSCSE 181 Batch and onwards, all students of MSCSE, UIU must complete CSE 6093: Research Methodology and Technical Writing course outside of his/her major track courses. Besides, CSE 6167: Special Topic-I and CSE 6169: Special Topic-II must not be taken for more than one time during the whole MSCSE period in UIU (applicable from 181 MSCSE Batch). Students who have weak undergraduate grades or have not come from CS/CSE/EEE/Applied Physics background will be required to take a number of prerequisite courses (list enclosed) as decided by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

C. School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SoHSS)

An 18 months long 39 credit hours MDS program focuses on Interdisciplinary Education and Research. Students have scope to get engaged in collaborative research projects; participate in International Conference on Sustainable Development held in February every year at UIU; produce and publish articles jointly with UIU Faculty; build networks with development organizations, research and education institutions through participation in forums and seminars; and field study.

Admission Requirements

  • Candidates must have a bachelor degree with a second class/division or CGPA 2.00 or above in a scale of 4.00 in any discipline from a recognized public or private university.

Credit Requirements 

For MDS degree, a student has to complete 39 credits, with 11 courses of 3 credits eachand thesis of 6 credits. Students have to complete 09 (Nine) Core Courses, which are mandatory and 02 (Two) Elective Courses (6 credits). Student must take two [additional] Elective Courses if she/he does not opt for Thesis.

  1. A relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a GPA of 2.00 or above in a scale of 4.0
  2. A relevant Bachelor Degree with at least second divisions/classes in all previous exams.
  3. Students completing undergraduate programs from UIU having a minimum CGPA of 2.00 will be eligible to get admission to any graduate programs without appearing at the Admission Test.
  4. Credit-transferred students will be able to get admission to an undergraduate/graduate program of UIU without Admission Test.
  5. Different departments may have some additional requirements.
  6. Some students may be required to complete some additional preparatory courses at UIU before they start their Master’s programs.

Direct Admission Eligibility

Admission Test is not required for getting admission to any Master’s program for the students graduated from UIU.

Admission Test Syllabus

* School of Business & Economics: A One-hour & Twenty minutes (Appx.) admission test consisting of essay and multiple-choice questions in English (Grammar, Reading Comprehension), SAT1/SSC syllabus based Mathematics (Quantitative, Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, Commonly known concepts of Geometry), Short Essay writing.
School of Science & Engg. A two-hour admission test (Appx.) consisting of essay or paragraph and multiple-choice questions in English (Grammar, Reading Comprehension), HSC syllabus based Mathematics & Physics.
* MBA: A One-hour admission test consisting of three sections (i) Multiple-choice questions in English (Grammar, Reading Comprehension),  (ii)  Multiple-choice questions in Mathematics (Quantitative, Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, Commonly known concepts of Geometry), (iii) Short Essay writing.
 * EMBA, MSCSE, MSECO & MDS: Students are required to attend Viva Voce and shall have to bring all Academic Certificates, Transcripts & Job Experience Certificates at the time of Viva Voce.
Acceptable score in UIU admission test.  Successful applicants must complete admission procedures within a specified date, which will be mentioned in the Admission Test Result notification.
